Ready.....set.....install dishwasher.....Not so fast....

Alright so the plan last night was to go home and install the new dishwasher for T.  I was stoked to get this done even though I wasn't sure I was going to be able to do it.  I get excited to do projects but then I start to doubt myself.  Let me tell you what happened.

As soon as I walk in the door, my sweet little C3 greets me with an loud "Close your eyes", well since I have to walk up the stairs I kind of peeked to make sure my clumsy ass didn't fall.  When I get to the top C1 has joined C3 in the chorus of "Close your eyes"  When I finally get into the kitchen I........

C1 is either a future salesman or he is going to be the next host of the Price is Right, because when he told me to open my eyes, he got his tv voice on and started to give me the run down on the new appliances in the kitchen.

C1- "This is the fridge and the freezer and it does this and this and has water and ice and opens like this and this is the oven and it opens like this and you have to do the dishwasher now and it will go right here"

OK, now I am ready to tackle the dishwasher.  I will not be beat, I can do this.  I get out the instructions which is a victory all by itself.  I get the dishwasher in position and start reading.  Wait, gotta move C4 to the other room, little man is trying to pull wires and strings.  Ok back to reading and got the tools and kick plate is off and located wires and....oh shit wait gotta move C4 again.  This little guy is too fast.

Here is where I hang my head in defeat.  Looking at the directions and the dishwasher, I notice that I do not have the parts that are not included in the shipping box.  What the F**K man, come on, wish I would have know I would need this shit before I get everything ready to go.  A couple of the pieces I need I could have taken them off of the old dishwasher if I would have know I needed them.  At this point it is 9:45pm and no way to make it to Home Depot.  I break the news to T and she is ok with it, I can stop at Home Depot on the way home and hopefully complete this tomorrow.

At the same time my confidence drops as quick as a Kobe jump shot and now I have all night and all day Tuesday to think about the damn dishwasher.  I look at T and tell her to keep Anna's number on speed dial so I can puss out and call her husband Kevin who does this shit for a living.

C1 asks me if the dishwasher is finished and I tell him I can't finish it until tomorrow and he then says "Do the microwave" Sorry buddy that will be another night too.

So I actually did manage to fix the oven and get the racks adjusted and the easy pull hinge shit attached and that is somewhat of a accomplishment.

The night actually got better from there, we all went into C1 & C2's room and instead of reading a book before bed we did a make up your own story kind of thing.  I started off the story, then T went and then on to C1, C2, C3 and then I finished the story off.  That was fun.  We were pirates and princesses on a ship and the kids filled in the blanks and seemed to like that.

The main thing that sucked about tonight is that I wanted so bad to get the dishwasher installed for T.  I know she doesn't feel this way but I feel that I failed.  I feel like that because I get home, try to do this, miss out on time with the C's and what is the end result?

Nothing, have to do the same shit again tonight and try to get it done.

Guess we will see

My house is my biggest accomplishment and my biggest disappointment.

The disappointment due to the lack of time I have to do the things you are talking about as well.

We had to replace a dishwasher last year. A used for a used. I salvaged from the old though.

We want to get a new one soon. I will think of you when I do it too.

I hope it all comes together.

Ha! I've got a play set to put together later and the instructions are gonna be "a victory all by it self" for me too. What's with the instruction!?

PC, I don't understand why instructions have to be so difficult to understand and follow. Ikea's are the worst. Only things meant for men to put together are this crazy. I smell another post coming about..

Hubby's new motto (after installing the new faucet) is to go into any of those situations thinking it's gonna be the shitiest thing ever and be completely effed up. Then, you aren't disapointed if it is and if it's not you are pleasantly surprised!

When he finally installs our dishwasher (I'm sure it will be years), I'll let ya know how his philosophy works.
